2nd Half is the term we are using for everything in our church for adults 55+. After we reach our mid 40’s, all adults are entering into the second half of life. 2nd Half Ministry finds its purpose in the fact that adults today are living longer than ever, with an extra two, three, or more, decades of life that was not a reality for past generations.

“…one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)

2nd Half ministry seeks to find ways to engage the benefits of those extra decades of life in order to improve the quality of life for all adults of First Baptist Church as they grow older.  God has given us those extra years – an extra stage of life – for a reason.  The third stanza of Steve Green’s song Find Us Faithful says,  

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful,
May the fire of our devotion light their way,
May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe,
And the lives we live inspire then to obey.
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful.

As we grow older, our challenge is not whether or not we retire vocationally, it’s how we live out the balance of our lives as Christ followers.  Throughout the whole Bible, there is not one person who “retired” from serving God.  The same should be true of us.

2nd Half Ministry seeks to develop activities, outreach and discipleship ministries, and other avenues of service to reach unchurched people as well as to nurture and encourage believers in Christ that they may continue to grow stronger spiritually, mentally, socially, and physically.
